This past Sunday was the inaugural Tour de Concord, a criterium set in Metrotown in Burnaby. The event put on by Concord Pacific and Cycling BC brought big crowds, creating a great atmosphere to ride in. The course was fast and technical with lots of corners. Things started fast. In lap two Fiona Majendie was in a crash, but headed to the pits and was in back in the pack one lap later. Jenna Nestman was caught behind the crash, and had possibly the ride of the race, definitely the most tenacity to work to get back to the pack. For the rest of the race the women’s team worked well together, attacking and counterattacking off the front.
Despite attempts to bridge and chase them back, the winning break of three riders up the road a few laps to go meant the pack was now racing for forth and that it would come down to a final sprint. In the last lap, Jenna made a move in the back straightaway, getting in front of the group coming into the final corner. Jenna came 2nd in the pack sprint and Fiona 5th, ending up 5th and 8th overall!
Huge thanks to all of our supporters and crew on the sidelines, we could not have done it without you!
