This past Sunday the TRT women took on the Delta UCI road race, the third event in BC Superweek. Delta is always a really good opportunity for us – it’s technical, fast, with just enough of a climb to make it challenging. We were met by a beautiful sunny day, a definite change from the last few years that were grey and rainy.

Things stayed pretty calm the first few laps, which was lucky for me as I flatted up the climb on lap two. The pressure was on to catch back up to the group quickly, before any real moves were made by the pack. Thanks to some great caravan driving skills by Evan and a fast wheel change by Nick, I was back in a lap later!

Things started to ramp up around lap four. Some aggressive moves by TRT, the Cyclery-Opus, and the Canadian National Team put the pressure on pro teams like Rally and Colavita. While a few girls did get up the road at certain times, nothing really stuck until a strong move that included Joelle Numainville, Alison Jackson, Sara Poidevin, and TRT’s very own Sara Bergen.

At around two laps to go these girls opened up a dominant lead. Despite Colavita’s best efforts to chase it back, the gap stuck until the finish, with Sara Bergen using her impressive sprinting to grab a strong second-place finish! A special mention also has to be given to Suzanne – last year she went down hard in a serious crash during this very race. It ended her season and forced her to take a lot of time off the bike. She was back in it this year and rode an awesome, fearless race. Big props girl!

All in all, a great weekend for TRT, with some stellar podium performances by Sara and strong teamwork by the rest of the girls. A big thanks to all our supporters and sponsors, who make all of this possible!
