While in the Windy City, Red Truck's Fiona Majendie took the opportunity to race the local Intelligentia Cup and flew the Canadian Red Truck jersey!
The first two days had a punchy climb, of 12% and lots of corners. Doing that for 75 minutes definitely created some fatigue in the legs!
Day 3 was like a mini road race. A longer climb in a tail wind and downhill into a headwind. There was a break of 11 riders that went 30 minutes in. The pack chased and in the final lap, we were 200 m from them. I took an inside line in the pack sprint and finished 15th in the pack sprint, 26th overall.
Day 4 was the “technical course”. Lots of corners and flowing turns. I loved the course, had a great flow to it. Race ended together in a pack sprint.
Day 5 was the rest day; therefore touristing time! We went on an easy spin to go see the bean, watched a free concert and toured the Chicago lake front.
Day 6 was the Kermesse. Essentially a pan flat circuit race of 80 km. The first 40 km were very contained, then after the half way point team started going for attacks. All were chased back, but the pace picked up. The course was filled with pot holes and cracks in the road. I unfortunately hit one with three laps to go, and the road race turned into an individual TT for me!
