Finally, a hometown race! This past weekend the team raced in Victoria at the Robert Cameron Law cycling series in conjunction with master’s nationals.

Friday night the “islanders” raced the TT along Dallas road with the ocean as our backdrop. It was an unusually calm evening with no significant head or tailwind. I was the final starter of the evening with Holly starting two minutes ahead of me. It was a technical course with bumpy roads, winding streets and four ascents up King George Terrace. I did catch myself once or twice looking at that sun setting out over the water but was quickly brought back to reality with riders whizzing by me on the other side of the road. Despite my distractions I won the TT with Holly coming in 2nd, another great TT for the both of us!

Sunday morning all the Vancouver residents, as well as Ben from Sugoi, made their annual voyage onto the ferry and over to Victoria for the criterium around the legislature. I loved having everyone coming over to race in my adopted hometown!

The TRT women love crits and we “lit it up”, winning 4 of the 5 primes and taking 2nd, 4th and 5th! A TRT’r was never not off the front; every time we got brought back another one of us would counter. I countered with about 10min left into the race and was solo off the front. Two girls later bridged up to me and were committed to making the break stick; I sat in. Miraculously Holly bridged up with three laps to go. We attacked hard on the final straight going into the last lap and got a gap but it was closed back down, I went for the sprint and came 2nd and Anna winning the bunch sprint to take 5th!

Thank you to everyone for cheering us on from the sidelines, the encouragement of others is always so motivating!
