Saturday morning the TRT race team lined up for the first stage race of the year, everyone (especially Kyle) glistening with fresh Californian tans. An excellent performance in the time trail put Isabella into the women GC lead. On the men’s side, Kyle rode to an impressive second place with the crit and road race to go. The men fought hard over the bumpy and cracked surface of the pavement to set up Al and Kyle for some bonus seconds at the finish. Isabella retained her GC lead by winning the crit, with the rest of the TRT sweeping four out the five podium spots.

Ominous cloud fortunately cleared for the Sunday road race and as the men rolled out the course was starting to dry. The men’s squad rode an aggressive race constantly trying to get some riders up the road. Northing panned out until about 40km to go when Brendan initialed an attack and was later joined by another two riders. The break managed to stay away, Brendan taking second place and also moving up with the time gap on GC.

Michelle from the women’s squad had a great ride in the road race opening up a two minute gap on second place and another five minutes on the rest of the group. The women dominated the GC podium taking the top four spots with Michelle moving into the number one spot with her impressive ride in the road race. Kyle and Al took 2nd and 5th respectively in the GC.

The first stage race of the year was a great showing for the team. They displayed great teamwork and were an example of what can be accomplished when we work together. Great work everyone!
