My first elite TT Provincials, my first 40km Time Trial, and my first race on my sweet new Trek Speed Concept! All in all, I am happy with how the day went. It was a very hot one out in the farmlands of Langley, and the TRT racers were getting ready for a slog of a TT by hydrating well, staying focused and getting those proper warm ups in. Race prep can be completely different from rider to rider, and knowing what works best for you is very important. This was something I was happy with from my race day.

We all lined up for two laps of a 19km course, the same distance for all elite riders. The course was generally flat, with lots of 90 degree corners and with one little pitch leading up to a U-turn on the out and back section of the lap. Time Trials are truly a mental art, and one that I certainly have not yet mastered. On the day, however, I think I did a good job with the pacing and with keeping my thoughts from straying to the dark side, only really losing this in the second half of lap one, when the winds were high in the unfriendly direction and this drag was felt on the body but also the mind. Luckily I came back for a stronger second lap. Never having done a TT of that length it was hard to have a time reference for myself, but I know what felt right and what needs improving for next year!

It was a great job by all the Red Truck riders who took on this grueling Championship race, and big congrats to Kyle on the Men’s team for a super strong ride for 2nd in the Province.
