A couple weekends ago saw the three juniors of Trek Red Truck head out to Penticton to race the Junior Provincial Championships. The racing got kicked off bright and early Saturday morning with a time trial of 22km for the girls and the same for the boys. The course was around Summerland in a beauty location.
The race went as planned for me besides my legs feeling like big blocks of cement. AND for the boys Joel won by a huge margin!
After the TT we got our recovery on as the criterium was scheduled for the evening. The crit was downtown Penticton, in a prime spot. With no other teammates in the race and with not having much of a kick for the end my strategy was to make it a hard race on the sprinters or to get off the front solo. I think I made it a pretty hard race, but when every attack you make is marked going solo wasn’t going to happen. So I put my sprinting legs on for the finale and managed third up against some of BC’s finest young gals. On the boys side Joel and Willem both put in super strong rides with Will coming in second! On a side note if your ever in Okanagan Falls make sure you hit up Tickleberry’s for some awesome ice cream!!
The last race of the weekend was the road race on Sunday. The course was one of the coolest I’ve done in BC and it made for an epic battle in both the men’s and women’s races. The course had a 3km gradual climb with a back stretch of false flat, a ripper of a downhill and then a couple of short kickers up to the finish. Our race was pretty much whoever could suffer the most up the climb and that day it wasn’t me. It was pretty disappointing race as a whole personally but that’s the way she goes sometimes.
Although in the men’s race it was a different story with Joel out front for a bunch of the race and Will bridging across. They went 1-2 ahead of what was left of the pack after they decimated it! Way to go boys!
All in all it was a massively successful weekend for the team with a total of 7 podiums and 3 Provincial jerseys.
